Don, I have always loved your music! I took guitar lessons from Doug Freeman in 1973 at the old music shop I believe it was on College st. I met you and played a few times with you and Doug. I remember seeing you guys at the memorial union, I was 12. I'm so glad you are still making music. I play in a trio and some of our most popular requests are Wooly, Northern Lights and Bronze and Steel. Do you know where Doug is? I would love to thank him for the great love of guitar that he instilled in me. Warm regards Kyle

Just finished reading the Steve Goodman biography by Clay Eals. Very interesting. And enjoyed your song on the included CD. Hope you are doing well and happily. The book made me all nostalgic for those wild days, and content too knowing that all in all the journey has been a satisfying one. Best wishes to you as I reorient the time-warp back to now. -- Janet (Shep from Milwaukee)

I'm a musician who grew up in Iowa and loved the original Freeman and Lange recording. Actually recorded Wooley myself on our Iowa Rose record album. Many long years since the turntable has worked. Now I am back listening to records and marveling at the beautiful songs you two wrote and performed. So glad you're still making music - as am I. Older, a bit gray but it's the best of times. Wish I could try your wine! Carry on and best wishes!!

Happy New Year, Don. We celebrated with your luscious pinot noir, and many happy thoughts of hearing you sing lo those many years ago at the Kenwood Inn in Milwaukee (of all places) when one of us was nicknamed "Shep". Fond, lovely, golden, endearing memories. Best to you and yours. -- Janet Black

Well, the phone died midst our converstation this evening. Amongst the many musicians we know in common ... Mary Flower did a house concert for me in the '90's. Guess I could go an and on, as can you 'bout all the music.

Your music remains incredible .. as does your voice .. and yeah, yours also, Wendy.
Here's to good music, good wine and .. LOL .. Wine from Albertson's all those years ago.

Keep that music flowin and the grapes a growin'

Bill Staines says "Hi!". He played a couple terrific sets in our living room last night. It was quite an honor. After everyone else left Debi and I and a friend hung out with Bill and talked and drank Irish whiskey and watched 'Festival' on a DVD he brought. We finally called it good around 1:30am. I truly wish you and Wendy could have joined us. There will likely be another time, though, as he asked me to look for a spot in his travel schedule in the future.

Tell Wendy and Jesse 'Hi' from me. I hope the crush is proving to be prolific and high quality!

I too was in the audience most nights at the Mill. I owned 'Freeman and Lange' and 'Northern Lights' until they were destroyed in a house fire.

Do you know of any resource through which I could replace them, and obtain all of your subsequent albums?

I really love your lyrics and your masterful fretwork.

Hey Don, Just thought I'd drop a line.I recieved a bottle of your Pino for my birthday;the big five-oh!Great stuff.I had to turn the bottle around after catching the the salmon fly on the beautiful label. I thought...'somebody in Oregon makes great wine and loves flyfishing.Think I'll check it out.' The tunes are great & nice fishin' photos. You're in God's country allright. I'm off to Norway in June to visit my cousins with my wife Joanne ,hope to hit some rivers. I hear it's good.I've been playing guitar all my life.I bought a martin 000-28 ECB a few years ago.Interestingly, my cousin Tor is a fantastic player,"a regular james Taylor" as they say. It should be fun. Anyway, before signing out I'll tell you that I will be dropping off a bottle to my other cousins in Chappaqua,N.Y.They are Pino lovers and they should get a kick out of it; their name is Lange too! Take care and keep up the good work,Ken. P.S. is that an Olsen you're holding in the photo?

Mr. Lange,
Though we may not know each other, I was introduced to your music by someone you know. Steve Mortensen
taught me how to play this guitar and brought me to this site and your music.
Just an old toolmaker by trade and grew up in Cinton Iowa and artist in my own domain.
Find myself playing some of your wonderful tunes now. Well, the best I can anyway.
Sometime I would like to share the experience.

Kindest regards;

Edward

i was in iowa city from 1970--1976 and played holes in your album i played it so much--i love that damn thing and the songs after all these years still get sung in the shower when i'm in a good mood. But, alas, it is gone the way of all things and no longer plays. Can i get another one or is it available on CD--help me--too long without hearing your music.

Hi Don

I took guitar lessons from you in Iowa City at the old West Music a few blocks from the Old Capitol, it may have been 1973 or so. I'm still playing, so you must have done something right! Or perhaps you should have done more to discourage me...In any case, I plan to keep an eye out for your wines and pick up a bottle.

Cheers!

Hi,

I heard Christy Moore play your song 'Allende' in Dublin this weekend, and I was stirred by it. Really beautiful song.
The winners may write the history, but the people write the songs.

Good to hear your music again. We met at the 1977 Philadelphia Folk Festival. I was singing "Ol' Wooley" at the time and I recall you telling me my version was more like what was really happening when you wrote it. That was quite an honor. Hope we cross musical paths again sometime.

I heard Christine Lavin introduce The Wall and Strange Gumbo this morning on a show on The Village on XM Radio. What wonderful, moving songs. When will our country ever learn the devistating affects of war. Music is such a great medium to get the message out. Thank you.

Don,

Great website. Don't know if you remember the telephone operator you met back in Iowa City years ago, but I am still a fan. Heard a friend in Portland found you performing there and requested 'Delbert and the Moose' a few years back. Funny. Anyway, we love your wine and have always loved the music. Peace, JRW
